That awkward moment when you make absolute statements about the people of a country  that is essentially an ethnic melting pot.

America is not a melting pot.

According to statistics, It is. Please provide me with reliable data to prove otherwise.

What statistics show that America is a melting pot? The term melting pot does not mean simply that people of many different racial and ethnic backgrounds live here. It also implies that these disparate groups eventually mix seamlessly and form a single monoculture. This is not happening in the United States. This is evident in a variety of places:

• Residential segregation
• Education attainment
• Access to health care, infant mortality rates, longevity, etc.
• Income inequality

And the list goes on. If we lived in a homogeneous society with a single monolithic culture, we would not see these disparities along racial lines. We would all have more or less the same culture, the same access to basic services, the same levels of achievement and income. We do not. 

I have no idea what statistics you are referring to that show that America is a melting pot. America does have racial and ethnic diversity. However, those two things aren’t the same.

A favorite professor of mine used to say that America was more like a tossed salad. Then he’d laugh at how hilarious he was. Good man.
